About the Society of the War of 1812 in the District of Columbia

The Society of the War of 1812 in the District of Columbia was founded on February 18, 1894 to perpetuate the memories of our Second War of Independence, and the true beginnings of American Manifest Destiny. The members of the Society are gentlemen directly descended from the “Warhawks” who fought in the War of 1812 who have joined together to:

  • Perpetuate its memory and victories
  • Collect and preserve documentation from that period
  • Encourage research
  • Support memorials of patriots of that era
  • Cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, fostering true patriotism and love of country
